Luke 1

Luke 1 – Value of Relationship by Jake Cordell

This post follows a commonly used journaling technique known as SOAP (Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer).  It is a great way to record what God speaks to you through His Word.

Scripture:  Luke 1:36 What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age!  People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month.

Observation:  Mary was going through arguably the most difficult situation of her life to this moment.  The weight of the world was resting on her shoulders, and what does God do?  He let her know that she was not alone.  Mary responded to the Lord and went to see Elizabeth.  Mary was provided comfort and encouragement while she was walking through a very difficult season.

Application:  What God asked of Mary had huge consequences attached to it.  Joseph was going to dismiss her privately to avoid bringing judgment and punishment upon her until the Angel of the Lord appeared to him.  We cannot take for granted the value of relationship within our lives.  While we haven’t been approached to carry the Son of God, we, like Mary, have been tapped with our Kingdom Assignment.  Hers was to give birth to the Son of God and yours is to give birth to the will of God for your life.  There are a couple things from this section of Scripture that are important in our lives:

  1. It is important to follow God’s Kingdom Assignment for your life just as Mary did.
  2. It is important to surround yourself with people that can encourage you when you walk through difficult times.
  3. It is important to praise God not only in the good seasons, but also in the bad.

Prayer:  Lord, Thank you for the call that you have on each of our lives and thank You for the relationships You have given to us.  Thank you for our church family that walks with us as we pursue our Kingdom Assignment, both individually and as a church family.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

P.S.  Read Luke 2 for Friday’s post.
